James Dant X Naked & Famous Denim

I was tasked with illustrating the pocket flasher and co-branded leather patch design for the first denim collaboration between the menswear store James Dant and Canadian powerhouse brand, Naked & Famous Denim. The 16oz, slubby, rigid denim was aptly titled “Slub Monster” so I had a bit of fun with the illustration of a deep sea monster. Originally we were looking at vintage pulp/monster covers for the flasher, but I had really been wanting to draw a kraken at the time. We also had the added task of incorporating the James Dant Gargoyle into the flasher or leather patch design. We decided to make the dual branded logos the focus of the leather patch and went through various ideas. Drawing on the idea of a golden shuttle loom, weathered details and hidden character of the fabric we created something very special.
